Organized in Springfield, Ill., in 1892 to secure representation for Sangamon County women at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago; an auxiliary of the Illinois Woman's Exposition Board. In April, 1893, the Sangamon County Columbian Exposition Club formed a committee to collect sketches of the lives of Illinois' pioneer women.
